Rodent season is here! Of course, unlike Christmas time, we should approach this season prepared to deal with the worst! Rats and mice may get into our homes or places of business.
Infestation and exposure aren’t just about compromising your property and sharing it with rodents. It is about putting your food stock at risk. It can also mean damages to your property. Rats and mice are carriers of diseases and, as rodent season comes in, they can bring these diseases to you and your loved ones.
Rodent Season: What and Why
There really is no exact time for rodent season. But, you can tell it’s coming as the weather begins to cool.
When weather moves from warm to cool, rodents begin to search for places and spaces that provide better warmth. Homes and similar sorts of properties are the likely places that they find.
Likewise, homes and certain places of business offer an extra perk for rats and mice. These places have food stocks, which is always a plus for rodents that just came of the end of the breeding season. There are going to be rat and mouse babies, and you certainly wouldn’t want this within your property!
Prepare for Rodent Season!
There are several precautions you can take as rodent season comes in.
First of all, you need to secure your food stocks. This is one of the main incentives that rodents move in to one place. Cold climate means food is harder to come by. If your stocks are exposed, it gives rodents a good reason to live closer and encroach into your home.
Next, clean up your space. Clutter are nesting spaces for rodents. Your unsorted piles of newspaper, collectibles and what not can provide warmth to rats and mice. So, get rid of them if you can. Else, you need to find a way to securely store these items.
When this is done, keep an eye out for signs of rodents. You might see droppings here and there. Likewise, you will likely hear their noises at night or see them scampering within your property.
